What is the difference between the Tread Unibody and Treadbed bulk truck platforms?

The Unibody platform integrates the explosives body and chassis into a single structural unit, offering a lower center of gravity and compact footprint. The Treadbed platform mounts a separate explosives body onto a standard truck chassis, providing more flexibility for chassis selection and serviceability. Both platforms are available in ANFO, BLEND, PUMPER, and QUAD configurations.

What types of bulk explosives trucks does Tread Corporation manufacture?

Tread Corporation manufactures four configuration types: ANFO trucks (for augering dry ANFO), BLEND trucks (for augering a blend of ANFO and emulsion), PUMPER trucks (for pumping straight or pre-blended emulsion), and QUAD trucks (capable of augering, blending, and pumping any mixture). These are available on both the Unibody and Treadbed platforms.

What is a MEMU or MMU bulk truck?

MEMU stands for Mobile Explosives Manufacturing Unit, and MMU stands for Mobile Mixing Unit. These are bulk explosives trucks used in mining and quarrying to transport, mix, and load bulk explosive products such as ANFO and emulsion directly at the blast site. Tread Corporation has manufactured MEMU and MMU trucks since the 1960s.

What regulations do Tread bulk trucks comply with?

Tread bulk trucks are designed and manufactured to comply with OSHA, MSHA, ATF (BATF), DOT, TC (Transport Canada), and IME (Institute of Makers of Explosives) regulations. Compliance documentation is available upon request.

Can Tread customize a bulk truck to my operation's specific needs?

Yes. Tread's commercial engineers work with each customer to specify the right chassis, tank capacity, pump system, control system, and add-ons for their application. Custom configurations are built at Tread's manufacturing facility in Roanoke, Virginia.

Does Tread Corporation offer bulk truck rebuilds and field service?

Yes. Tread offers full rebuild services including chassis swaps, new controls, and pump or augering equipment upgrades for existing Tread units. Tread also has field service technicians located globally who can provide on-site assistance.

As the explosives industry began a conversion from package products to bulk ANFO in the ’60s, Tread expanded its line of equipment and began developing the first Treadbed bulk handling truck during this time. These robust structural ANFO Treadbed models were designed, product/application engineered, and operationally dedicated specifically for use in the explosives industry. They became the basis for all Treadbed models since then.

Development

With the further introduction of bulk emulsions and various additives that gave the blaster the ability to custom mix product at the borehole, Tread expanded its bulk truck Treadbed offering to complement these new product applications by providing Blend, Pump, and Quad type trucks to meet the challenging requirements and conditions while in the field.
