The iconic, robust profile of the classic Treadbed ANFO tank has remained the same, for nearly 60 years.
In the 1960s, the use of bulk ANFO (Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil) was becoming widespread across the mining industry. Made of 94% porous prilled ammonium nitrate (AN) and 6% diesel fuel (FO), the AN acts as an oxidizing agent and absorbent for the FO. This produced a safer and more cost-effective high explosive compared to previously used options, such as black powder, dynamite, or Nitroglycerin — making ANFO a preferred explosive choice for mines with suitable conditions.
In response to the growing need for bulk ANFO delivery options, Tread developed its first of many bulk truck designs, the Treadbed ANFO truck. The iconic, robust profile of the classic Treadbed ANFO tank has remained the same for nearly 60 years. It quickly became a staple in the mining industry, known for its reliability and efficiency on the job.
