We recently got a call from a longtime friend and coworker for many years at Tread. James “Biddy” Huff wanted to get his Tread Daybox magazine refreshed and cleaned up.

Biddy wasn’t just somebody that worked at Tread for a while… He was with Tread from the 1970’s, until he retired around 2015. For over 40 years Biddy was a key part of our Fabrication/Welding team. Helping create the Tread products that set us apart from the competition with unrivaled quality and longevity in the field. And that magazine he has? He hand-built it back in 1976 to store ammunition. Doesn’t get much cooler than that.

Starting at Tread right around the time we moved from our first location on 30^th street, Biddy moved with us to the Granby Street location, and then again once Tread moved to our current location on East Park drive. All the while, helping keep our product’s quality consistent for our customers.

His magazine was in pretty rough shape from a long life lived outside. But like a lot of aging Tread equipment, still functional. We had it cleaned, sand blasted, and repainted. Good to go for another 50 years.

He even brought an old Tread equipment catalogue with him to show us how things used to be done around here! And while technologies and processes have evolved over the years, the quality and character of Tread products remains the same.

Stories likes Biddy’s are a huge part of what makes Tread special. While innovation and adapting to change is always important, so is having deep community roots, and the invaluable expertise that is built and passed down from Tread alumni like Biddy.
